In my opinion, the open data effort at Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is merely ticking the box on what OMB asked, and does little to make data more accessible. This project looks to move forward the conversation around VA data, making it more accessible as CSV and JSON files, and deploying simple APIs when I have the time.
These are general datasets that I am aggregating from data.gov, and other locations as part of my work to make the VA more machine readable. I will be breaking some data I come across into their own projects, when it make sense. Here are the datasets I have in my general VA pool.
The goal of publishing these CSV and JSON alternatives is to make this data easier to consumer, and integrate into websites, applications, visualizations, and other integrations. If you fork, and enhance any of this data, please be kind and submit a pull request so everyone can benefit.
These are the definitions for APIs I have generated for the datasets above. It is described using Swagger which allows the generation of interactive documentation, while also describing the meta data and surface area of an API.
The goal of launching these APIs is to make this data easier to consumer, and integrate into websites, applications, visualizations, and other integrations.
This is a showcase of what is being build on top of this open data and APIs. Right now it is just sample data, but I will publish some work shortly.
